Jewish antiquities

A hoard of Jewish ritual items were intercepted by Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities as they were on their way to be smuggled to Belgium.

The antiquities include 11 cylindrical wooden boxes of 20cm diameter. The boxes are silver inlaid and decorated with Hebrew inscriptions. The boxes were used to keep Torah (Pentateuch).

The confiscated antiquities also include silver crown and knives dated to 1890 A.D. as well as a number of bells were used in synagogues.

A number of other objects are still being under study to determine which era they are dated to.
