News, WTM - UK: Luxor to celebrate 92 Anniversary of King Tut tomb discovery

In its section at the World Travel Market (WTM) scheduled from Nov. 3-6 in London, Luxor will launch its participation by celebrating the 92nd anniversary of the discovery of King Tutankhamen’s tomb, said Adel Abdul Razek, a board member of the Egyptian Tourism Federation, Saturday.

Luxor will participate in the event with a tourism delegation chaired by its mayor, Tarek Saad el-Din, Abdul Razek told The Cairo Post.
“The celebrations will include a screening of black and white photos and documentaries explaining the significant event, along with promotional brochures displaying the contents of the tomb upon discovery,” said Abdul Razek.

The Egyptian delegation also intends to present the completed phases of the giant project to restore the 2.7-kilometer long Sphinx Avenue linking the Luxor and Karnak temples, along with shedding light on recent archaeological discoveries in the city, Abdul Razek added.

Furthermore, the delegation will inform visitors about different parts of Egypt and Luxor and upcoming festivals, carnivals and events that will take place in Luxor, including the African Film Festival scheduled from March 17-23, 2015.

The Tourism Promotion Authority (TPA) will sponsor the registration of the WTM, a board member of the TPA previously told The Cairo Post.

The Tourism Ministry is intensifying its marketing campaigns in the main tourism exporting markets to Egypt through Facebook and approximately 2,000 bloggers, Tourism Minister Hisham Zaazou told Al-Ahram earlier this month.

Egypt’s tourism sector, which represents 11 percent of the country’s GDP, has been suffering from ongoing shocks ever since the 2011 uprising that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak.

Despite a few instances of apparent recovery, continuous instability, political turmoil and a lack of security have remained challenges to the sector.                                                                                                    Source: The Cairo Post
