News: Luxor Sees Surge of Tourists Ahead of Christmas Season

CAIRO: Upper Egypt’s Luxor has seen a surge of incoming tourists over the past 10 days, Maj. Gen. Hosni Hussein Assistant Director of the General Department of Police of Tourism and Antiquities told Youm7.

The city, home to the temple of Hapshetsut, saw 12,000 holidaymakers, he said.

Sharm el-Sheikh security has been intensified in the lead-up to Christmas celebrations in the Red Sea resort town, a security source told Youm7.

The town is implementing a security plan that includes CCTV cameras and metal detectors in key areas ahead of the holidays, the source continued.
