News, Cairo: Ministry to Restore Baron Empain Mansion

CAIRO: The Ministry of Antiquities will launch a project to restore and renovate the Baron Empain Palace in Cairo’s Heliopolis, the Ministry announced Sunday via its Facebook page.

Dr. Mustafa Amin, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, stated that the ministry will look into setting up a fund to pay for the renovations, in cooperation with the Heliopolis Heritage Foundation.

The Baron Empain Palace was constructed between 1907 and 1911 by French architect Alexandre Marcel, and is an iconic landmark in Heliopolis, despite sitting unoccupied for decades.
